The Easter night service at the Orthodox church in Lisbon is not just a liturgy — it’s a true encounter with a miracle. I’m still deeply moved by the incredible atmosphere that filled that night. Everything around was breathing light, love, and grace. It felt as if the heavens had opened so we could touch eternity. The church was filled with people — long-time parishioners and those who came for the first time, simply seeking warmth and meaning. But that evening, we were all one family. In the darkness of night, by candlelight, every prayer felt especially tender, especially profound. In that moment, all earthly concerns disappeared — only the light of Christ remained, shining within each of us. Father Vitaliy led the service with incredible beauty and sincerity. His voice carried a special power, and his prayers were so heartfelt that it was impossible to hold back tears. It truly felt as though Christ Himself was among us, hearing every word, every heart. I was especially touched by the prayer after the procession — it was filled with such warmth, hope, and living faith that my soul stood still in awe. And when the choir began to sing “Christ is Risen from the Dead,” it was a moment beyond words. Everything was filled with light — not just physical light, but spiritual. People embraced, smiled, shared eggs and Easter cakes, and joyfully greeted each other with “Christ is Risen!” In that moment, I felt: this is the true Pascha — the triumph of life, the victory of love over death, the celebration of eternity. I truly hope to return to this church for Easter again. It’s a special place, with special people, who make the service come alive in the most real and powerful way. It’s unforgettable. I want to once again stand with a lit candle among others, feel the warmth of grace, and hear prayers filled with strength and light. Easter in Lisbon is not just a memory. It’s a spiritual milestone — a point of reference I want to return to again and again. 🌿 The blessing of Easter baskets at the Lisbon church took place twice: — during the Easter night, from 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM on the square outside the church; — and also from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM inside the church, for those who couldn’t attend the night service. It was another beautiful opportunity to speak with Father Vitaliy, to feel the warmth of the community, and to share in the joy of the holiday even in the middle of the day.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lisbon is a truly special place, where warm and kind-hearted Ukrainians living in Portugal come together. It's so meaningful that some people travel over 150 kilometers just to attend the Sunday liturgy and pray together. God has sent us Father Vitaliy as a true spiritual shepherd. He does incredible work — organizing the community, helping people come together, and making everyone feel like part of a large Christian family. The church offers a deep sense of belonging, reminding us that we’re not alone in Lisbon, that we have brothers and sisters in Christ right beside us. It’s a true spiritual treasure for our Ukrainian community here. Services are held not only on Saturdays but also on major feast days throughout the year, which is especially important for the faithful. The parish is quite large for a diaspora community — between 150 and 200 people attend each service. Recently, I found myself in Lisbon and began searching for a Ukrainian Orthodox community — a place where I could reconnect with the faith and traditions that have always been deeply important to me. I was hoping to find a small corner of Ukraine far from home, somewhere I could come to pray, feel a sense of unity with others who share my spiritual values, and find comfort in a foreign land. I expected to discover a modest parish with just a few members, but instead, I stumbled upon something much greater and more meaningful — the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lisbon, which immediately captured my heart. This parish turned out to be a true revelation. From the moment I stepped inside the church, I was surrounded by an atmosphere of incredible spiritual warmth and hospitality. Every corner of this place radiates love and care for its people, and the liturgies are conducted with such sincerity and reverence that it's impossible not to be moved. But what left the deepest impression on me was the choir. It wasn't just beautiful — it was absolutely breathtaking. Their singing was so powerful it felt as though angels were descending from heaven to join us in worship. The harmony of their voices created an atmosphere where the presence of God’s grace was truly tangible. That sound filled both the church and my soul with a light and warmth that stayed with me long after the service ended. I also can't help but mention the church’s priest, Father Vitaliy. To me, he embodies what it means to be a true spiritual shepherd — wise, kind, and deeply devoted to his congregation. From the very first words I heard him speak, I knew I had found someone who not only knows and loves his flock but genuinely cares for each and every person. His sermons are rich in meaning and full of inspiration; they help you find answers to life’s big questions and strengthen your faith. Father Vitaliy is someone who is always ready to listen, support, and guide — no matter what you come to him with. I am deeply grateful that life led me to this incredible church. For me, it’s so much more than just a place of prayer — it’s a true spiritual home, where I feel like part of a big, close-knit family. Far from my native Ukraine, I found something greater than I ever expected. I found a community where I can truly be myself, where I am always welcome, and where each day is filled with God’s grace. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lisbon has become a source of joy, spiritual renewal, and deep inspiration for me.
